Success Stories

Alex

Alex was 5 years old when he came to ATNHS. He was surrendered by a family from Northern New Hampshire who were losing their home due to the bad economy. They were forced to leave their home and could no longer keep Alex. He had been very loved by his family and we promised to find him a great and loving home.

Alex had a tumor that required surgery. He was operated on at Companion Pet Care and recovered very well. He is a very friendly and easy going guy, and is great with kids.

In April Alex was adopted by the Hamiltons of Franconia. Alex loves to relax on the couch in his new home with Connor Hamilton. He has enjoyed a camping trip with the family and gets along well with the family’s Ridgeback. He loves to jump into the bathtub with the kids and sleeps with Connor at night. Alex has happily adjusted to his new family.

King

King is a Pit bull/lab mix who came to ATNHS as a surrender. He was a 5-6 month old puppy who had been abandoned by his previous family. He was very friendly and good with children and other animals, but an extremely high energy dog who had never had any training. Board member Dave Wentworth worked extensively with King to give him some basic training.

The Borger family came to ATNHS looking to adopt a dog and fell in love with King. Eight year old Nathan Borger saved his allowance money and the family adopted King, whose name is now Buddy. The story below, written by Angie Borger, describes Buddy’s life with his new family and the friendship between Nathan and Buddy.

Buddy is such a great dog and we love him to pieces. He loves his new name he is responding to it very well. He has become Nathan’s shadow; everything he does Buddy is right there on his heels. Buddy sleeps in a crate in Nathan’s room and is doing wonderful. We started letting him off the leash and what an amazing dog. He shows no sign of running and is great about going into his kennel.

The boys play baseball and Buddy has gone to every game. He and I run around the field before the game starts. He is a great running partner. He went camping with us a few weeks ago and was wonderful. It was Nathan’s birthday that weekend and when we asked him what he would like for his birthday he said “dog toys”, so that weekend Buddy got a lot of new dog toys! We recently hiked Cardigan Mt., elevation 3121 ft. Everyone did well and Buddy really enjoyed it.

Last year we had to put to sleep our 12 year old Rottie Tucker, which was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do. Nathan was very much apart of the process right down to the moment of the final goodbyes and holding him until he slept. Nathan is an amazing child and I want to thank you for giving him and us the chance to give Buddy a great life. Nathan has definitely learned the meaning of “the circle of life” and has nothing but love to give Buddy.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity,
The Borger Family (Nathan, Angie, Neil, Ryan, Buddy, Willie the cat, Barney the cat)
